LONDON – It’s that time of the year again when the best and the brightest designers from around the world showcase their creations in the much anticipated London Fashion Week.
Filipino designer Philipp Tampus titillated the crowd at the House of Ikons fashion show with his 24-piece collection inspired by London weather.
“I was inspired by the gloomy weather of London, with monochromatic skies and the beautiful structure of buildings and the culture,” he said after strutting down the runway at the finale.
He added: “As a Filipino, I’m proud and happy.”
From the House of Ikons show, Tampus moved to the House of Lords in an invitation-only event dubbed "Creative Economy Through Fashion,” where he showcased a 20-piece collection inspired by sampaguita flowers.
Describing the pieces, he said: “The sampaguita flowers are made of cocoon, intricately by hand, one by one, attached and embroidered. Since we are representing the Philippines, the materials are Hablon and cocoon made by our indigenous weavers in Argao, Cebu and some from Ilocos region.”
He added: “I created something to have a global appeal made into suits and even trousers for ladies.”
Tampus is one of the most sought-after designers in Cebu. With the Philipp Tampus Atelier that produces clothes appealing to a wide audience, he has also made a reputable brand creating bridal gowns and party dresses.
The Cebu-based designer developed a passion for creating beautifully-crafted garments due to his exposure as a young boy to his mother’s work.
“At seven years I learned how to sketch, how to draw,” he said.
After his successful London Fashion debut, he wants to continue making people happy. He aspires to leave an indelible mark in the fashion world not only with his world-class, classic and romantic bespoke designs but also for touching people’s lives.
“I want to be known not just for what I create but for how I relate with people: that I left them beautiful things and I made them happy,” Tampus said.
